Accessibility Information
Accessibility to our campus is a priority. Accessibility needs greatly vary and we would like to create ease and respond to all requests and individual needs to create access. Please don’t hesitate to speak with your clinician/group facilitator or a member of our Organizing Team (Ezra, Cam, Sabrina, Dave, Kate).
Accessible parking: Parking spots are available by reservation and coned off, to secure your access. Please contact your clinician/group facilitator or any member of our Organizing Team to discuss your needs and reserve a parking spot(s) on campus.
Accessible entrances: The Durham campus has 3 accessible entrances (black house, casa, movement space*). The movement space is accessible on the side entrance. All buildings have a lip at the entrance door which should be regarded for safety. Please let us know if any extra support is needed to improve access.
Accessibility for neurodivergence: We want Radical Healing to be a space that welcomes and celebrates radical authenticity, and we are so happy to have neurodivergent individuals on our campus. Campus accessibility includes a culture that is pro-stimming and ability to access sensory-friendly spaces as needed. If you believe any other accessibility measures would allow you to be more authentic on our campus, please don’t hesitate to speak with your clinician, group facilitator, or a member of the Organizing Team.
COVID and Illness
Masking is requested in all interior common areas, including bathrooms and hallways on campus. For larger format group spaces, please continue to wear a mask unless everyone in the group has discussed comfort and agrees to remove masks.
The Movement Space has a medical-grade HEPA Filter that cleans the air every 8-10 minutes, and when possible, facilitators may choose to open doors and windows to increase ventilation in the space.
If you have symptoms of COVID or any other illness or infection, please consider alternative session plans or ensure you’re wearing masks in session if you test negative for COVID. If you need access to a COVID test, please contact a member of the Organizing Team for extra support.
IF YOU TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID (updated 9/2023): Current guidelines recommend staying home for 5 days following a positive COVID test. Day 0 is the first onset of symptoms and Day 1 is considered the first full day after the day your symptoms started. You may want to consider masking in person for the next week after you return to campus following the 5 day isolation period.

DBT Skills Group for Trans and GNC Folx
Skills groups are one of the five modes of DBT and serve the function of enhancing the capabilities of clients to regulate and understand their emotions. The skills modules include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Mindfulness is designed to teach a person how to focus their mind and attention. Distress tolerance is centered on accepting the current situation and finding ways to survive and tolerate the moment without engaging in problematic behavior. Emotion regulation skills include learning to identify and label current emotions, identifying obstacles to changing emotions, reducing emotional reactivity, increasing positive emotions, and changing emotions. Finally, interpersonal effectiveness skills teach effective strategies for asking for what one needs, saying no, and coping with interpersonal conflict.
New skills are presented each week and homework is assigned for individuals to practice during the week. Homework is reviewed at a later group session or at the next group. The goal is for people to gain new skills, get better at the skills they have and be able to use the skills when they are really needed, like during times of intense emotion, crisis or conflict.

This group will utilize art therapy techniques to explore DBT concepts and skills. This group offers a safe, neurodiverse and accepting space for LGBTQIA+ individuals to explore DBT principles through art and creativity. Individuals do not have to identify as an "artist" to join. Art therapy is designed to benefit all creative skill levels.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an approach to therapy that teaches participants to both accept and change their emotions, finding balance between extremes. DBT includes mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation. It has been demonstrated to be effective for people who sometimes struggle with accepting and regulating their emotions.
The weekly group for teens will be on Thursdays from 5:30-7PM and the sliding scale runs from $20-$80 per session. Please contact Cassie Hamrick for more information: cassiehamrickarttherapy@gmail.com or click here. New folx welcome as of 8/15/2018.

Consultation & Training Group:
For Providers Working with Trans/GNC clients
There is a growing need in the Triangle for clinicians with training to work with the trans and gender non-conforming population of all ages. This group is also beneficial to queer-identified (or LGB identified) therapists as we cover resources and issues specific to the Triangle area and beyond. The consultation group will delve into recent scholarly articles and case studies. Trans-identified therapists are welcome. Individual consults are available as well if a group setting is not preferred or if a commitment for the entire workshop is not tenable for you.
- Monthly 1.5 hour sessions with a 6 month commitment (March-August 2017)
- Sessions are didactic (covering topics ranging from surgery letter writing for coverage, supporting clients pre and post surgery, needs of children, youth and families, adults in the process of family building, and aging trans individuals, considerations in work with trans people of color, and more). Articles and case studies will be utilized.
- Case consultation each session
LGBTQ+ Music Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
We are excited to offer this Queer and POC-facilitated music therapy group for LGBTQ+ folx. In this safe-r space group, we will explore how somatic based practices - using the voice - can support mood functioning and treat anxiety and depression. This group is a coping skills group for LGBTQ+ folx, who struggle with depression and anxiety. In this group, we will use music therapy techniques, including music assisted relaxation, songwriting, group singing, and lyric analysis/song discussion. Our group aims to promote self-awareness around our vulnerabilities and triggers as well as create opportunities to develop strategies to support mood functioning.
